Vacation

If you enjoyed the original “Vacation” movies with Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, you should enjoy the story of his son Rusty Griswold – now grown up, with a disfunctional family of his own – trying to recreate the cross country drive to Walley World that he did years before with his parents and sister. Ed Helms does an amazing job as a hapless father trying to give his family a great vacation, in the only way a Griswold knows how. Along the way he has to deal with his own family’s quirks, his extended family, car trouble, a menacing trucker, and numerous other problems. There are some really funny bits – I thought this was funnier than the original. The film also features Christina Applegate as Rusty’s wife, in the same straight-woman role as Beverly D’Angelo’s portrayal of Ellen in the earlier films. If you grew up on the Vacation movies, I think you’ll love this one too, but be prepared for outrageous situations and ridiculous scenarios.
