Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a fun, light-hearted family film that is great for the whole family to watch.
The film tells the story of Sam (Josh Henderson reprising his roll for 2008’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth), an adventurous young adolescent who receives a distress signal from an island. After being told that the signal is coming from an area where no islands exist, Sam becomes increasingly interested in getting down to the bottom of the mystery.
Sam talks his step-dad (The Rock) into joining him on his adventure, but they struggle to find people willing to take them to the signal’s source. Finally they convince clownish helicopter pilot Gapato (Luis Guzman) and his gorgeous daughter (Vanessa Hudgens) to help them.
As mentioned above, this film is incredibly light-hearted, so if you have high expectations, you probably won’t enjoy it. Michael Caine’s role in the film gives it some necessary backbone, and I would say his involvement stopped this becoming a straight to DVD release.  The use of 3D and the special effects were pretty impressive, however the story could use a little work. In saying that, there is plenty of fun for the kids, and they should enjoy it
