Over the past 20 years, Giesen Winery has established itself as one of the best wineries in New Zealand. With a total of 13 Vineyards sprawled over 720 acres of land, the company has managed to acquire some of the best vineyards in the Marlborough region.
We were lucky enough to get a couple of bottles sent to the office to sample, and needless to say we weren’t disappointed!  Here are the wines we got to sample:

Giesen Estate Marlborough Pinot Gris 2011

The 2011 Pinot Gris is an aromatic and elegant wine with spicy floral notes and aromas of poached pear, almond, dry spice with vanilla pod. The palate is intense with tropical stone fruit flavour and a hint of warm brioche. Texturally the wine is supple with luscious fruit sweetness yet it’s also powerful with some alcohol warmth along with a ripe structure, which ensures a finish with persistent flavour.

Giesen Estate Marlborough Riesling 2011
A lovely purity of aroma with notes of honeysuckle, jasmine and lime, all combining beautifully. Purity is also apparent on the palate with flavours of tangelo, a touch of blue borage honey. A succulent, juicy palate is kept in check by the clean, fresh acidity giving the palate length and minerality.

Giesen Estate Gisborne Merlot 2010
The Giesen 2010 Merlot is packed full of ripe blackberry and boysenberry aromas with hints of spice with a succulent palate with well rounded tannin.
