Here’s Good Cooking

Tucked away along the trendy café strip at the stylish South Perth foreshore is a restaurant with personality, style and fantastic food. D’Tandoor South Perth is an award winning Indian restaurant specialising in fine authentic North Indian cuisine.
As soon as you step foot in the restaurant, friendly staff and colourful Bollywood décor greet you. With soundtracks from popular Bollywood movies playing in the background and the smiling portraits of Bollywood superstars hanging on the walls, d’Tandoor’s Director, Dr Rani Kaur, says diners will experience an “authentic Bollywood Indian experience” when they visit the restaurant.
Open for nearly three years, d’Tandoor South Perth offers an extensive menu ranging from starters right through to traditional Indian desserts, and is open for lunch on Thursday and Friday and for dinner every night. A new buffet lunch menu for Saturday and Sundays will be available soon, with all meals made to Halal standards.
Sheesh Kebab is a popular starter at d’Tandoor. Made with spiced lamb, these skewerless kebabs leave quite an impact on the palate. The raitha – a yoghurt dish with vegetables – to balance the spice and cool the tongue would compliment this dish perfectly and can be ordered separately.
Another starter to try is the Chicken Tikka. Juicy spring chicken pieces are marinated overnight in a combination of delicate and mild spices to ensure the flavour permeates right through the meat to give it a soft tasty melt in the mouth feeling.
Or if you’d like to try a few different things, the d’Tandoor Platter has it all, with chicken tikka, vegetables samosas, onion bhajis, vegetable pakoras and the sheesh kebab.
The Butter Chicken is a delicious combination of mild fragrant sauce and moist and tender melt-in-your-mouth chicken pieces stirred through with fresh cashew nut cream. The delicate flavours of this dish were perfectly balanced with the crisp and fruity flavours of Kissing Fools Viognier that we had taken with us.
The Lamb Rogan Josh, a traditionally spicy dish, is made with small succulent and tender pieces of lamb that fall apart in your mouth. It is an intense spicy combination served with coriander and tomato slices although is surprisingly light in flavour and texture. The coriander is ever so subtle and does not overwhelm the spices while the tomato helps to take the edge off the dish. As to not overpower the dish, the Kissing Fools Cabernet Rose was the perfect wine accompaniment.

For a dish not cooked in sauce, try the Tandoori Chicken, half a skinless bird marinated in traditional tandoori spices and yoghurt, served with salad. The delicious marinade creates a crispy coating that balances the texture of the succulent meat.
When eating at d’Tandoor South Perth it is evident that the chefs know what they are doing. In fact all d’Tandoor Chefs are initially trained in Malaysia at the original d’Tandoor restaurant to ensure they are proficient in the traditional cooking and preparation methods.
Nearly all dishes can be shared, and rice, Naan bread, rotis (made from wholemeal flour), parathas, raitha and other side dishes are available to complement and complete your meal. D’Tandoor also offers a banquet-style meal “fit for a King and Queen” that comprises more than 12 dishes (starters, main course and desserts) and group bookings of over 20 receive a discount.
So if you’re looking for traditional Indian fine cuisine, d’Tandoor South Perth is waiting to take you on a culinary journey to Bollywood and back again – here’s good cooking!
