Borneo Day 5

Yesterday we met up with the GM from Le Medirean hotel who suggested we have the special breakfast and that is what we have done this morning.
Tried to burn a few kilos off at the gym first and then into breakfast before checking out.
We started with coffee. I had a latte and I must say that it was very good. Very surprised that they would have had such a good barista here. Breakfast was very good. Still traditional food but with a western twist. Lynne had Oat Suflet with berries and I had a Spinach & Buckwheat Crepe. Keep in mind that the special breakfast takes a long time to prepare. We waited about 50 minutes for ours.
After breakfast we checked out to go the Gaya Island Resort. I really have no idea what to expect. We were taken by speedboat arriving at a small jetty with little house on the water to the left and huge apartments on stilts to the right (that is where I am staying).
Our room was not ready so we went straight to lunch where I tried an Asian Beef burger. I just needed something like home to give my taste buds a rest. It was nice. Pretty much a traditional burger with local veggies and local sauce.
After we checked in to our rooms we were invited to the beach where we were treated to some local tea, coffee, food, art, dance and local rice wine. This was probably the best rice wine I have had here. Think I could have nailed a bottle solo.
For dinner we tried the fine dinning restaurant called Fisherman’s Cove. You would be looking at about 200 ringgit or $70 Australia dollars per head. We tried Mud Crab Tian and Tuna Tataki for starters followed by Symphony Of The Sea and Rock Lobster for our mains. For dessert we had chocolate lava pudding and green tea tiramisu. The standard was really high. True fine dinning. We had a chance to talk to the chef after who told us that he had worked in restaurants all over the world including Adelaide’s McLaren Vale.
Looking forward to what tomorrow brings.
