The Australian Hotels Association (AHA) WA has congratulated the McGowan Government for providing additional funding of $2.85 million to help support WA’s tourism and hospitality industry as it faces dual pressures from the recent bushfires and the emerging threat of Coronavirus.
AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said it was important for additional resources to be made available quickly to entice interstate visitors to WA and offset the potential impact that the fires and the Coronavirus outbreak could have on local accommodation hotels and hospitality businesses.
“This additional funding is very welcome and comes at a time when our local tourism, accommodation and hospitality industry is facing a virtually unprecedented dual threat from interstate and overseas events,” Mr Woods said.
“The McGowan Government is to be commended for responding quickly to assist our industry during what is an uncertain period ahead.”
“WA has been fortunate to be largely unaffected from bushfires this season and remains well positioned to accommodate holidaymakers and business visitors from interstate and abroad. There will be many Australians in other states that may be reconsidering their international travel plans – this new campaign may help entice such travellers to WA, where we have world-class destinations, an affordable array of accommodation options and an unparalleled food and beverage offering.”
“This new marketing initiative will complement the Federal Government’s $76 million for tourism marketing as part of the bushfire recovery package.”
