The Australian Hotels Association (AHA) WA has welcomed the Federal Government’s new wage subsidy scheme, which will cover half of the wages of all apprentices and trainees for the next 12 months.

AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said WA’s hotels, restaurants, bars, pubs and taverns will be significant beneficiaries of the scheme, with businesses incentivised to hire and workers encouraged to enter the hospitality industry.

“Western Australia’s hospitality industry has a well-documented and growing skills shortage and today’s announcement will make significant inroads in addressing the state’s future workforce requirements,” Mr Woods said.

“In the wake of COVID-19, hotels and hospitality venues are going to need substantial support to ensure jobs are retained and venues can grow – today’s announcement is precisely what businesses need.”

“We commend the Federal Government for delivering practical and immediate assistance that will be warmly welcomed by thousands of businesses across the state.”
