The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has welcomed news today that the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) is set for a major redevelopment.

AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said it was fantastic to see the WA Government enter into negotiations with long-term leaseholders, Wyllie and Brookfield, who have crafted impressive designs showcasing a transformed convention centre extending to the Swan River.

Mr Woods said “The PCEC’s age of infrastructure and venue capability restrictions present increasing challenges to secure major national and international meetings for WA in a highly competitive global marketplace.”

“Re-development of the PCEC into a world class facility will attract significant large scale international and domestic conferences and exhibitions, of the like Perth has missed out on over many years.

“Enabling renewed world class facilities provides the opportunity for Perth to host events that are also closer aligned with the State’s Diversify WA investment strategy for economic growth.

“The creation of a civic hub on Perth’s Swan River will not just link Elizabeth Quay to the Convention Centre, but many of Perth’s central hotels and hospitality venues.

“The conferences and exhibition industry adds significant value to Western Australia’s economy, WA’s hotels, bars, pubs, restaurants and tourism venues are major beneficiaries of a successful conference and events industry.”
