The Swan Valley’s renowned Feral Brewing company retained its supremacy within the industry by winning the Best Commercial Brewery, Best West Australian Brewery, Best Ale Packaged, Best Ale Draught and Best Stout Packaged.  Other trophy winners include Brewhouse Margaret River, Cheeky Monkey Brewery, Lion, Gage Roads and Homestead Brewery.

Trophies for amateurs featured categories Best Amateur Brewer, which went to Tearne, Benjamin Robert-Zane, Chris de Chaneet and the Best Amateur Beer of the Show going to David and Brigitte Seaman with their Raspberry Pie-Berliner Weiss in Class 72.

A panel of 7 local and interstate judges completed judging over 200 beer exhibits, with Chief Judge Justin Fox heading up the team. Judges individually determine each beer that is presented to them using the Beer Style Guidelines as a reference, with each beer being identified only by a class number and style category.  The beer is judged by its appearance, aroma, flavor and body, technical quality, and style to a total score of 20.

This year’s competition has seen an increase in the overall high quality of beers being produced around Australia and a more diverse range of exhibits including the introduction of herbs and spices in the mixed range of lager and ale, stout, reduced alcohol and wheat beers being considered.

The Awards were made at a presentation dinner at the Beaumonde on the Point with the Hon Darren West MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Regional Development and Agriculture and Food who represented the Honorable Mark McGowan MLA and Minister for Agriculture and Food, The Honorable Alannah MacTiernan MLC.
