The Swan Valley Wine Show 2012

The annual Swan Valley Wine Show Awards dinner was held last night with 140 guests attending the event at Belvoir Homestead. Corin Lamont (of Lamont’s fame) was inducted as the Icon of the Swan Valley for 2012. She was born in the Swan Valley and has grown up in the vineyards with her father being one of Australia’s best winemakers, Jack Mann. Corin crafted her first commercial vintage in 1978 and has continued to make quality wine ever since. She has been involved in the Swan Valley Vintners, The Swan Valley Regional Winemakers Association and the Swan Valley Tourism Council. Her clear vision has aided in the success of the region and industry.
Corin opened her restaurant in 1989 with her two daughters, Kate and Fiona. She has always honored the Swan Valley and was unable to attend the ceremony and accept her award as she just had surgery. The Icon of the Swan valley receives a hand crafted artwork by ceramic artist Garry Zeck and has their name carved into the Icons of the Swan Valley board which is on display at the Swan Valley visitor center. Mandoon Estate Winery took the trophy for the Most Succesful Exhibitor and Best Shiraz of the Show. Palinda Wines won two trophies with their 2012 baroque series Verdelho. The City of Swan Trophy was presented to Houghton Wines for highest overall score and the Chairman’s Trophy went to Talijancich Julian James White Liquor. The 2012 Swan Valley Wine Show was a huge success, go visit the Swan valley visitor center to see all the past winners of the Icon of the Swan Valley award.
