Every six months our friends at Pierro Wines in Margaret River send us some samples of their fine wines. One of the wines they sent us in December 2014 was a 2012 Pierro Pinot Noir – due for release in January 2015 – so we got to preview it before it was released for sale to the general public. This is a delightful example of this Margaret River pinot. It is light to medium-bodied, has ripe strawberry and red cherry characters, wonderful sweet red berry fruit on the mid-palate, a soft smooth texture and noticeable acidity on the finish. It is a vibrant red sourced from 32 year old vines on the Pierro Estate vineyard that is excellent for current drinking. It will improve in the bottle over the next five years but most will find it is so delicious now that they won’t bother waiting.
