Once again, Margaret River wines have done extremely well in the Decanter World Wine Awards held in London earlier this month. The South West wines were most recognized in their Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnarys and White Blend classes.
In an entry pool of 12, 252 from across 44 countries, Margaret River alone won 3 Gold and 4 Regional Medals. Gold Medal winners were the Stella Bella 2008 Shiraz, the Streicker Wines 2009 Old Vine Chardonnay and the Thompson Estate 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Additionally, Regional Trophies went to the Amelia Park 2009 Cabernet Merlot, the Catching Thieves 2010 Cabernet Merlot, the Evans & Tate Redbrook 2008 Chardonnay and the Voyager Estate 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. There were also numerous Silver, Bronze and Commendation medals as well.
The success of the wines in the Decanter Awards continues a trend which goes back at least four years. According to Nick Power, CEO of the Margaret River Wine Industry Association, the success is the result of a combination of great climate, geography with minimal seasonal variation.
