Are Perth Service Industry Standards Dropping?

Shows such as ‘Masterchef’ and ‘My Kitchen Rules’ are being blamed for the rising expectations of food service around Perth. Restaurant owners feel that more and more customers are disappointed with what they’re being dished up. When Fairfax blogger John Birmingham criticized the service industry in Perth, a lot of people agreed with him.
But restaurant owners say they’re under a lot of pressure due to the staff shortage. The reality is that the mining boom is attracting more and more people into higher-paying mining jobs, making it extremely difficult to find quality, experienced chefs and waitstaff.
With the next generation of kids growing up with these types of shows, the Service Industry is worried that food expectations will continue to rise. The Australian Hotels Association of WA is currently working with the government to bring in a long term staffing fix, which will hopefully ease the situation.
