After COVID-19 cruelly cut short last year’s contest, the Australian Hotels Association (WA) today proudly announces the start of the 2021 WA’s Best Steak Sandwich Competition.

AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said venues across the state have nominated in large numbers to put forward some of the finest steak sandwiches on the planet.

“This epic competition has restarted just as people across Western Australia threw their masks in the bin – the timing really couldn’t be better,” Mr Woods said.

“Now in its fourteenth year, the Best Steak Sandwich Competition allows venues from across our state to showcase their culinary skills in creating the very best of this iconic dish.”

“Over the years, WA’s pubs, taverns, restaurants and bars have engaged in an increasingly intense battle to take out this prestigious title.”

“This year 62 venues are participating across Perth and regional WA, with patrons able to start voting online today for their favourite creation.”

The rules of the competition state a ‘steak’ is defined as a cut of meat being beef or lamb. The composition of the Steak Sandwich, recipe and its ingredients must remain the same throughout the competition and must also remain on the venue’s menu until voting concludes.

Four finalists will be chosen from regional and metropolitan areas to participate in a live steak sandwich cook-off, held at the AHA(WA) Hospitality Expo at Crown Perth on 13 and 14 April 2021 respectively.

A full list of participating venues can be found at www.hospitalitywa.com with the public able to cast their vote here until 22 March 2021.

While not in any way endorsed by health professionals, the AHA recommends Western Australians should consume a steak sandwich a day for the duration of steak sandwich season.
