WineFinder_Key Image-1Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) has announced the WA Wine List Awards will merge with the R&CA Trending Lunch, as part of the WA Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence.
The WA Wine List Awards recognise restaurants and hospitality businesses that excel in the promotion and matching of local wines with food featured on their menu. R&CA will announce the winners of the WA Wine List Awards at the Trending Lunch, which will be held at Bathers Beach House in Fremantle on Monday 22nd June 12pm-2.30pm.
R&CA CEO John Hart says the inaugural event is a great way to showcase WA wines and support local producers – with nine sensational regions producing their own distinctive tastes. “It’s all about enhancing the tourism experience by combining local food and wine together. We know international visitors crave authentic local culinary experiences – this is a great way to reward those businesses that make it a core component of their operation,” said Mr Hart.
Wines of WA’s CEO Larry Jorgensen is proud to have partnered with R&CA to promote and support the Western Australian wine industry. “WA wineries are producing world class wines and are an asset to any restaurant wine list”, said Mr Jorgensen.
The merger comes as R&CA, the peak national organisation representing the interests of Australia’s 35,000 restaurateurs, caterers and café operators, launched Cellar Reserve to match restaurants with wine makers that may only want a small supply. The Cellar Reserve website at www.cellarreserve.com.au is the first of its kind, which aims to make it simple and cost effective for restaurants across the country to showcase exclusive international wines.
R&CA CEO John Hart says the website supports local wineries and the overall positioning of food, wine and tourism. “It’s about facilitating Australian restaurants with the tools to showcase Australian wine – especially to the overseas traveller. The association identified that there was a demand for small stock within the industry and this will help streamline the process between the cellar door to sophisticated wine lists – when a restaurant is searching for a particular wine and only requires a small quantity they can purchase direct from the winery,” said Mr Hart.
The WA Wine List Awards are judged on a comprehensive list of criteria. Nominations now close on Friday 15 May and must be made via the R&CA website at www.restaurantcater.asn.au
