Screen Shot 2019-06-07 at 11.57.07 AMWA’s seafood industry was on show at the yearly Exmouth event, the Ningaloo Whale Shark Festival, a perfect platform to engage with the community on all levels to promote WA’s dynamic seafood industry and its history. This year WAFIC, MG Kailis and MSC united to promote key messages and demonstrate the environmentally friendly commercial fishing practices of the industry.

With a full replica prawn trawler, cooking demonstrations by celebrity chef Anna Gare, enthusiastic staff and lots of giveaways – the marquee become an action-packed, educational area where the community could see first-hand the value of WA’s commercial fishing industry. The event not only humanised the seafood sector but gave the community a chance to become engaged through speaking directly with industry representatives and asking questions. It was also an avenue for staff to promote the important and responsible role the commercial fishing industry has played to not only the community of Exmouth, but Western Australia.
