Taste of Chittering

vegeOn Sunday 28th August 2016, from 10am to 3pm, we enjoyed the annual showcase of local products from Chittering. This event celebrates and shares this unique region, highlighting its rich orange growing history.

The festival will be back again next year – watch this space.
THEY CAME… THEY SIPPED, THEY SHOPPED, THEY SAVOURED…AND ENJOYED!

Chittering welcomed over 3,000 people to this year’s Taste of Chittering.  In celebration of the event’s fourth year the theme was based on the traditional anniversary gift of ‘fruit and flowers’, with a strong citrus slant.
Sipped… in the “wine nook”… with tastings available from local wineries Briery Estate, Glenowen Farm, Kyotmunga and Stringybark.  New Norcia were a new addition this year supported by local growers Bindoon Estate.  Unfortunately they didn’t bring their new beer with them but visitors had the chance to chat with the passionate proprietors of 14K Brewery, Chittering’s first local micro-brewery, which should be opening in March / April next year.
Shopped…at one of more of the sixty-ish classic country market stalls, most of which were local and all of them were definitely unique… no ‘made in China’ here!
Savoured… lunch in the open air, subtle smells of paella, sizzled sausages, gourmet burgers, roast beef rolls and crepes permeated the air all day.  Other tasty choices to take home included local produce, freshly squeezed citrus, fantastic fudge, home baked muffins and healthy raw foods, plus the local CWA were serving ‘Chitteringshire Teas’.
Enjoyed… the free activities on the Village Green.  All seemed equally as popular with adults and kids alike… baby farm animals, local native animals, balloon twisting, bubbleology, airbrush tattoos, mini-golf and takeaway worm farms.

The Shire of Chittering, as the event facilitator, would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the financial sponsorship received from Lotterywest, TRONOX and the Office of Road Safety.  Grateful thanks also go to ACE Electrical, Avon Waste, BEAT, Chittering Youth Krew, CLP Photography, Fun Airbrush Tattoos, Menu Magazine, Northern Valleys News, N&M Russell Plumbing & Gas and Orchard Glory Farm Resort for their support.  And without the many (over 120!) hours donated by volunteers, from near and far, the Shire wouldn’t be able to continue hosting this amazing local showcase.
