The Australian Hotels Association (WA) and WA Premier Mark McGowan will this evening formally recognise nine state quarantine hotels for keeping Western Australians safe during COVID-19, through the newly created AHA Service to Australia Awards.
AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said the awards will be presented at the 2021 Accommodation Awards for Excellence and are a way to recognise the tireless and critical work undertaken by quarantine hotels.
“By any measure, WA has been extraordinarily successful in containing COVID-19 and our quarantine hotels have been central to keeping Australians safe from the virus,” Mr Woods said.
“The responsibilities and expectations placed on those delivering hotel quarantine services have been extraordinary and staff within these hotels have made huge sacrifices while working in stressful environments.”
“The work carried out by WA’s quarantine hotels have directly saved lives.”
“The AHA Service to Australia Awards are an opportunity to show our gratitude to those whose selfless work has enabled us to enjoy freedom and safety that has been denied to billions of others across the world.”
“In what has been a difficult year, hotel quarantine workers have had a more challenging time than most – this evening is an opportunity for us as an industry and as a community to acknowledge, respect and pay thanks for their service to Australia.”
WA Premier Mark McGowan said Western Australia’s quarantine hotels and wider hospitality sector had played an important role in the State’s successful management of COVID-19.
“We have all been through a lot during the pandemic and the hospitality sector has been on the front line during this time,” Premier McGowan said.
“I’d like to thank our quarantine hotels and in particular the hotel workers who have done a tough job in unusual circumstances to help keep Western Australians safe.”
The Service to Australia Awards will be presented this evening at the Devil’s Lair Gala Ball, which will host the presentation of the 2021 AHA Perth Airport Accommodation Awards for Excellence.
