Last week a consignment of green tea from the popular Shizuoka prefecture in Japan was detained by customs at a French airport. The tea reportedly contained radiation levels of 1000Bq/kg, two times more than the permitted norm. The consignment is currently in quarantine and is set to be destroyed. The tea was contaminated due to the Fukushima nuclear disaster, despite the fact that the prefecture is 300km away. This has sparked fears worldwide that the Fukushima nuclear disaster has affected Japanese agriculture more than previously assumed.
