Introducing the Bravo apple

BravoIf you go gaga for Galas or you flip for Cripps it’s time to try the new apple on the block, the aptly named Bravo.
The launch of the 2017 Bravo apple season was commemorated by a long table dinner at Perth City Farm, with three courses each featuring the new fruit. The menu, designed by renowned local food champion Sophie Zalokar, complimented the warm flavours of the apple with earthy ingredients such as chorizo, pork and red wine.
“Bravo is so striking in its appearance and the good news is that it excels in the flavour department as well,” said Sophie.
More than two decades in the making, the Bravo is the culmination of Cripps Red and Royal Gala apples, giving it a distinctive burgundy colour and crisp, fresh taste with notes of woody Christmas spice and dry red wine. Following its retail debut in WA and NSW retailers last year, it is hoped that the uniquely refreshing flavour and visual appeal of the apple will be advocated by stores.
Produced exclusively in WA, and currently available in independent retailers and Woolworths stores throughout the state, the apple renews hope for the future of orchardists who have been doing it tough in recent years. The interest in exporting the unique apple may go a long way to helping WA orchards become sustainable again, and the start of a new industry that would benefit all Australians as the commercial production of Bravo’s is able to increase every year.
