The Mindarie Marina-based Indian Ocean Brewing Company has taken out top honours in the prestigious Australian International Beer Awards held recently in Melbourne.
Their White Cap was voted best in the Belgian Wit category, Britannia Best Bitter and Big Red both came equal top in their respective categories and the Indian Ocean Lager was awarded a very respectable third place in the Dortmunder Draught section. The only brew that didn’t win a gong was Indian Ocean Brewing Company’s Sweet Draught Stout. But there’s always next year!
Said Indian Ocean Brewing Company’s Head Brewer Dave Brough “This represents a real reward for all the hard work and dedication put in by everyone at the brewery. This is no country show. We were up against more than 270 brewers from 35 countries who presented in excess of 1,490 beers.”
The Australian International Beer Awards are in their twenty first year and have become one of the pre-eminent beer competitions in the world attracting boutique breweries, multi-national companies and everything in between from all over Australia as well as countries such as New Zealand, the United States, Chile, Spain, Japan, Belgium and the UK.
There’s been a huge increase in the numbers of small, independent micro-breweries in recent years and Australia has become something of a leader in this niche – but very popular – market.
Now, with some of the world’s best brews on their doorstep, the beer aficionados of Perth will be flocking to the Indi Brewhaus in Mindarie Marina to taste these locally brewed, award winning beers. Cheers!
