Australians could see an alarming 30% reduction in the foods that make up a healthy diet in the next few years.
WA Today reported that a drop in the number of bees, both feral and managed, could result in serious effects to almost 80 different types of crops dependant on pollination.
Due to changes in climate there have already been impacts on the bee industry in WA, and according to experts further damages to the industry are imminent due to the arrival of foreign pests.
According to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry the emergence of the Varroa Mite will affect bees and the pollination they provide by another 90-100%. Although the Varroa Mite has not yet entered the country, it is tipped to do so in the next 5 to 10 years.
