Screen Shot 2018-10-18 at 3.07.45 PMA recent report released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed that Dementia continues to be the leading cause of death among Australian women, and the second leading cause of death of all Australians.
To address the increasing prevalence of dementia, leading not-for-profit community-based organisation, Community Vision, has developed A Roast to Remember, a fundraising initiative aimed at raising $250,000 for a community dementia bus
A Roast to Remember encourages people to get friends and family together for a roast and fundraise, to help fund the community dementia bus. It will focus on the wider community who don’t have immediate access to local services to trial some of the new innovations such as Virtual Reality and therapy techniques for methods of dealing with a loved one with dementia. As well as giving a respite break to carers, those staffing the bus will be able to provide useful advice to carers and provide education to schools, to workers and those living with dementia across regional and metro locations in Perth.
The campaign website – http://www.aroasttoremember.com.auhas just launched a call out for fundraisers to submit their best roast recipes. Fundraisers are asked to share their best roast recipe, trimmings and all, and a pic of their final product for the chance to win some great prizes and also be part of a campaign recipe booklet. The booklet, to be launched in 2019, will be jam packed full of delicious roast recipes from iconic West Australian’s and will be sold to raise further funds to get the dementia bus up and running.
The Shoe Bar and Café, located in Yagan Square has come on board to support the campaign by introducing Roast Chicken Sundays. They will offer diners a half butterflied roast chicken, to be devoured in a share plate concept. It will come with gravy and all the trimmings including baby potatoes, honey soy roasted carrots and a parmesan, pea and savoy cabbage salad. All dishes sold from now through till December will see 10% being donated to A Roast to Remember.
