A veritable who’s who of Perth’s foodies and media collected at Bistro Guillame, Crown Perth, for the launch of the search for WA’s Signature Dish, organised by the Buy West Eat Best program. Open to anybody who fancies their cooking skills and would like to be a chef, this competition will run over the next few months, culminating with the winner being announced at a cook-off on WA Day (Monday 2 June). The aim of the competition is to identify a dish that is typically West Australian. The state is divided into 4 regions – the Gascoyne, the Southern Forests, the Great Southern, and Perth and surrounding areas. Cooks must use local ingredients to create an original dish that represents their region. There will be a winner for each region, and an overall winner. Celebrity chef Anna Gare introduced the Hon. Ken Baston MLC, Minister for Agriculture and Food, and the judges of the competition, which include renowned chefs Guillame Brahimi, Peter Manifis, Sophie Zalokar, David Coomer, Ralf Vogt, Silas Masih, Chris Taylor, and high profile food critic Rob Broadfield.
