West Coast Academy of Hospitality & Tourism graduate chefs Shane Middleton (20) and Cameron Wetton (21) beat seven teams from around Australia, achieving one silver and two gold medals for culinary excellence in the 2010 Nestle Golden Chefs Hat Competition.
The nation’s best and brightest young chefs travelled to Melbourne to cook their way into the grand final cook-off challenge on Tuesday 14 September where they had to create a three-course meal to impress the professional judging panel.
“Shane and Cameron delivered an exceptional menu, executed to the highest standard. They are truly deserving of the top spot and, in winning this prestigious competition for the second year in a row, have established themselves as rising stars of the culinary world,” says Competition Director, Deb Foreman from the Australian Culinary Federation.
Trained at the West Coast Academy of Hospitality & Tourism in Joondalup, the Perth based chefs have their sights set on travel and ultimately running their own restaurant.
As winners of this prestigious competition (Australia’s oldest and longest running Chef’s competition) the duo will enjoy a round trip to Chicago where they will do work experience at the world-renowned restaurant Charlie Trotter’s.
Well done to the duo for an outstanding achievement, and congratulations to West Coast Academy of Hospitality & Tourism!
