National Sales Manager Scott Player said, “Over half of craft beer consumed in Australia is a version of
Australian or North American Pale Ale. It feels like an injustice that someone wanting a mid-strength beer (3.5%) because of the occasion or personal choice hasn’t the option in the form of Australia’s favourite craft beer style.”
Matso’s Brewery, best known for its Mango and Ginger Beer, wanted to stay in tune with the ‘fruity’ connection to the tropical Kimberley region when developing the new Session Ale 3.5%. This is evident with the choice of Galaxy hops that delivers great fruit flavours (almost a tropical fruit salad) but with a clean, bitter finish.
There were a few challenges to overcome when the beer was being brewed, the biggest of which was maintaining the balance of flavour in the beer. The lower alcohol content meant that we needed to build body on the front and middle palate to balance the clean bitter finish. Between the mix of specialty malts and plenty of galaxy hops, this was achieved with a moreish tick of approval.
The new Session Ale is available on tap in Perth as well as selected bottle shops currently, with more coming on board every day. The Matso’s Blog is being continually updated to help customers find their local stockist: www.matsos.com.au/session-ale-3-5-stockists.
