The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has announced the winner of WA’s Best Regional Steak Sandwich for 2013 as Southerly Harbour View Bar & Restaurant, Port Denison.
AHA (WA) CEO, Bradley Woods, said all five finalists reflected the quality, taste and freshness of ingredients of steak sandwiches that are served in pubs, hotels and bars throughout WA.
“Each year we search the regional areas of the State to find the best steak sandwich available at one of our great country pubs and each year it gets harder to choose just one winner.
“The winning steak sandwich brings together everything that is great about our country pubs, from the home-styled cooking to the locally-grown produce which was declared ‘outstanding’ by the guest judges. Just pipping the other nominees for the trophy.
“Congratulations to the Southerly and chef Noel McVeigh. McVeigh brings 5 star culinary skills to Southerly’s and is producing fantastic high quality pub-food which tourists can now expect when they visit our regions.
“Noel and his fiancée, moved to Western Australia two and half years ago from Ireland. It is great to hear stories like these and the contribution new Western Australians are making to our state.
The five country finalists faced each other at a ‘cook off’ at the AHA Hospitality Expo 13 on Tuesday 14 May 2013 at Crown Perth. The WA’s Best Steak Sandwich Regional Competition is sponsored by Tourism Western Australia and beverage company Lion.
