Local Wine maker lauded for efforts

Local Margaret River winemaker Cathy Howard has been named runner-up in the 2011 RIRDC Rural Women’s Awards. The award recognizes and encourages women to contribute to the development of primary industries and resources in rural Australia.
Cathy was acknowledged for her efforts in creating a website to improve small wine artisans’ chances at state and national levels by pooling their resources together.
Cathy was elated to have been chosen as runner-up, saying that, “There were brilliant women among the finalists.
“I would encourage a lot of other women to look at seriously at entering,” she said.
“I never realised it was such a huge event.”
Cathy is currently working with her husband Neil on their own wines, namely Whicher Ridge Wines.
