Flametree on Fire at Perth Royal Wine Awards

Screen Shot 2017-09-06 at 11.37.06 AMThe heavily contested 2017 Perth Royal Wine Awards was met with gusto, seeing over 2000 entries exhibited and battling it out over four days of judging to showcase the best in WA and Australia.
Flametree Wines was a clear winner with The Lalla Rookh Trophy for Best Chardonnay, Hermitage Trophy for Best West Australian White Table Wine, Best Single Vineyard White Variety, RASWA Trophy for Best White Table Wine, Best West Australian Wine and The Portavin Integrated Trophy for Best Wine of the Show.
WA favorite Houghton’s, based in the Swan Valley, scooped up a pile of trophies including; RASWA Best Shiraz, Ian Smith Memorial Best 2015 Vintage Dry Red Table Wine and Heritage Trophy for Best West Australian Dry Red Table Wine. Finishing up with the Bill Jamieson Trophy for Most Successful WA Exhibitor.
Mandoon Estate also did very well, winning Trophies for Most Successful Western Australian Exhibitor processing under 300 tonnes, and for being the Exhibitor whose 5 or more judged entries gained the highest average points.
There were 267 wineries on show at this year’s Awards, with Chief Judge Sue Bell overseeing more than 20 judges from around Australia.
The Perth Royal Wine Awards Presentation was held on the 30th August in the Wilkinson Gallery at the Claremont Showground, and was attended by the Hon Chief Justice Wayne Martin and Her Excellency the Hon Kerry Sanderson AC Governor of Western Australia.
MC’d by Liam Bartlett, the crowd of over 100 wine makers, stewards, VIP’s and media applauded the winners with guests enjoying 2016 Winning Wines and grazing tables of Perth Royal Food Award Winners.
